GUWAHATI: APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the Assam Government is preparing beneficiary lists for different relief schemes by discriminating and depriving the poor needy people on political consideration.
In his letter, Bora stated that in addition to the schemes announced by the Central Government, the Assam Government on March 30 in the Cabinet meeting decided to distribute some economic benefits to the people of the State from April 1.
Some of the beneficiary schemes include Free rice to 100 families of the area with 5,000 population; Rs. 1,000 cash to 250 families of each ward under Guwahati Municipal Corporation and 100 families in case of each ward of the Municipal Boards and Town committees; Rs. 1000 cash to 2.78 lakh registered labourers under housing and other construction sectors.
Bora alleged that without any written guideline from the Government, the BJP leaders at block level at the instruction of the local BJP MLAs and ministers are preparing beneficiary lists by visiting house to house in the villages by violating total lockdown and the norms of social distancing. He added that in some places some BJP workers demanded money from the poor people for the inclusion of their names in the beneficiary list.
He urged the PM to intervene in this regard so that the benefits of the schemes reach the needy and the deserving people and are distributed in a transparent way.
