GUWAHATI: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come down heavily on Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia for demanding a special session of the Assembly to discuss the big dam issue and women's security.

Addressing a press meet at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan in the city on Monday, State BJP spokesperson Subhash Dutta said, "The demand for a special session of the Parliament or the Legislative Assembly does not suit a Congress leader who has gained notoriety by distorting the democratic tradition of Parliamentary information through childish manipulation in the Parliament and the Legislative Assembly. The undemocratic, intolerant and unruly behavior of the Congress MPs in the monsoon session of Parliament has been seen by the conscious masses of the country and the Congress leaders will get the answer in time."

He further said, "As Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia should take responsibility for wasting the time of the Assembly by initiating unnecessary debates on certain issues."

The BJP spokesperson said that the government was determined to curb crimes against women. "The BJP government has been able to set an example of convicting such criminals in a short period of time by trying them in a court of law. In this case, there is no need for policy education from the Congress."

State BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi was also present at the press meet.
