GUWAHATI: At a time when BJP’s drive for enrollment of eleven lakh active members in the State is going on in full swing, its ally Asom Gana Parishad has taken a decision to follow suit.
After the Lok Sabha election this year, the BJP, AGP and the BPF had a joint mission to garner 100+ seats in the 2021 Assembly election in the State. The three coalition parties also decided to strengthen their respective organizational bases so as to make their joint mission a success.
When the BJP’s enrollment drive has reached its crescendo with the party wooing people to join it, the AGP has decided to carry out such a membership drive now. The regional party took a decision to this effect at its recent meeting. The drive of the Asom Gana Parishad has two target elections ahead – the forthcoming civic body election likely to be held in 2020 and the 2021 Assembly election in the State.
Talking to The Sentinel, an AGP source said: “The membership drive is to cover the entire State. Such a drive is being taken by taking the organizational front of the party in view.”
