Cabinet committee will resolve issues of tribal people, says CM Himanta

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the State government would form a three-member Cabinet committee to discuss and resolve all issues of the tribal people.

Review meeting held with CCTOA

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the State government would form a three-member Cabinet committee to discuss and resolve all issues of the tribal people. The Chief Minister said this while taking part in a review meeting with the representatives of CCTOA (Coordination Committee of Tribal Organizations of Assam) to discuss about various issues of the tribal people, which was held at No. 1 State Guest House, Koinadhara in Guwahati today. Altogether 24 students and social organizations of the ST communities took part in the meeting.

The CCTOA representatives submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister underscoring 10 demands including preservation of tribal belts and blocks, land rights of forest dwellers, implementation of post-based reservation policy and filling up of backlog posts, besides Constitutional status to tribal Autonomous Councils.

After going through the demands, the Chief Minister announced that a three-member Cabinet committee will be formed to engage with CCTOA to discuss and resolve all issues of the tribal people. The Cabinet Committee will frequently hold discussions with CCTOA and take expeditious steps for settlement of land rights and other issues of the tribal people. The Chief Minister also informed that he will hold discussion with CCTOA on progress of the issues in the next six months.

Education and WPT & BC Minister Ranoj Pegu, Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, BTC Chief Pramod Bodo, Principal Secretaries and other senior officers of the State government were present in the meeting.
