Cases of smugglers duping smugglers with fake gold becoming rampant in Assam

GUWAHATI: The seizure of fake gold by the Assam Police is nothing new, as every now and then it makes it to the headlines. The cases of smugglers duping smugglers through the sale of fake gold are rampant in Assam. Such a case has again come to light.

According to sources, the three fraudsters from Bangalmara in Lakhimpur district duped a man from Jharkhand. They sold fake gold to the man at a hotel in Paltan Bazar a month ago.

The fraudsters were identified as Mokibul Islam, Billal Hussain, and Atiqul Islam. The three fraudsters sold fake gold for Rs 3.50 lakh.

According to the police, a case (503/2023) was registered at the Paltan Bazaar police station.

The three fraudsters were arrested on the basis of CCTV footage of the hotel where they sold fake gold. On the basis of the case registered at Paltan Bazar police station, the three were arrested by the Bihpuria Police from Bangalmara. They were handed over to the Paltan Bazaar police.

According to police source, to make the fake gold look original and ancient, they are made into shapes of boats, Jesus Christ, and others.
