GUWAHATI: A team of Congress leaders met on Thursday with the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, and submitted a memorandum against the cash-for-job scams where BJP leader Indrani Tahbildar was compelled to commit suicide. The team demanded strict action after the unfortunate suicide of the leader.
The memorandum stated, The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) expresses its deepest concern in the circumstances leading to the suicide of the BJP leader Indrani Tahbildar. APCC condemns the unholy nexus of cash for jobs scam that has been exposed with the arrest of some of the persons belonging to the BJP party involved in the case leading to the suicide of late Indrani Tahbildar. The APCC strongly feels that this incident also exposes the vulnerability regarding the safety and dignity of women in Assam. The leak of photos on social media by her own party men leading to her suicide speaks volumes about how social media is being used as a tool to compel a person to take the extreme step of ending one’s life. Since the persons who are involved in taking cash for government jobs related to the Indrani Tahbildar case have themselves revealed their involvement in such a scam and are already known and arrested by Assam police. The accused person in whose phone the photos were found, along with others, who circulated the photos and made them viral, should all be booked under cybercrime, blackmailing, and abetment to suicide charges, and under no circumstances should they be allowed to go scotfree. Since the Central Government under the Prime Minister and the Assam Government under the Chief Minister claim to have zero tolerance with regard to corruption, we urge your good office to take cognizance of the corruption that is going on within the ruling BJP partymen and punish those involved in such activities.”
“APCC does not wish to politicize the suicide of a woman, but rising above party politics, we urge that your good office will take strong steps to see that the persons involved in the suicide of late BJP leader Indrani Tahbildar and those indulging in cash for job scam get the stringent punishment so that it gives a strong message to the people of Assam on the safety of women and on the claims of zero tolerance on corruption by the Assam Government,” the memorandum added.
The team comprises APCC Vice Presidents Pranatee Phukan, Bobbeeta Sharma, Ballika Pegu MLA, Nandita Das, General Secretary APCC Roselina Tirkey, President Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Mira Barthakur, and others.
