Cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for NFSA cardholders

The State Government is contemplating providing free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to families having ration cards under the NFSA

GUWAHATI: The State Government is contemplating providing free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to families having ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). It is an idea of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta held a meeting on Thursday with senior Health Department and Atal Amrit Abhiyan officials to translate the Chief Minister's idea into reality.

The idea is that NFSA cardholders will get the facility for cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in all Government and Government-empanelled private hospitals in the State. Mahanta stressed on e-KYC (know your customer) collection of the target beneficiaries from their residences.

The Government has not revealed from when this plan will come into effect as it is a Herculean task to go to around 60 lakh beneficiary families. However, the scheme is likely to get shape in this fiscal.
