GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked Principal Secretary Agriculture to expeditiously take steps for proactively promoting the production of indigenous spices, organic farming and go for seed improvement, composite agriculture to increase the agricultural productivity.
Holding a meeting to review implementation of different schemes of Agriculture at Assam Administrative Staff College here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Sonowal said that with right kind of attention to indigenous spices, organic farming, composite agriculture and the like besides other crops, the unique selling proposition of the state in agriculture sector can be raised to a great extent. He, therefore, asked Principal Secretary, Agriculture Rajesh Prasad to take proactive steps for large scale cultivation of these agricultural crops.
Sonowal in the meeting said that for reaching the target of doubling farmers' income by 2022, the Agriculture Department has to aggressively implement the schemes, stated a release. He also stressed on mechanization in agricultural practices for increasing the production and meet the demand supply mismatch. Taking stock of the distribution of tractors under Chief Minister GrammyaUnnayan Yojana, Sonowal asked the society to aggressively complete the modalities and distribute the tractors among the beneficiaries. Regarding shallow tube wells with solar pump sets, Sonowal asked the department to expedite the process of distributing them.
