GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid a visit to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) and took stock of the preparedness of the new Super-Speciality Unit in the run-up to its scheduled inauguration on May 10, stated an official communique.
Interacting with senior officials of the GMCH in the presence of Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, the Chief Minister stated that the upcoming state-of-the-art hospital, built at a cost of nearly Rs 180 crore, is one of his dream projects to cater to the needs of each individual in the State. He said that the super-speciality hospital built for the best-of-class treatments in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology and cardiac-surgery, should be able to attract patients not only from the State but also from nations of Southeast Asia through its world-class services.
The Chief Minister further directed all concerned to ensure that all medical equipment become operational so that the new state-of-the-art hospital can perform to its full capacity from the day of its inauguration. The Chief Minister also asked the senior officials of the Health & Family Welfare Department to expedite the process of filling up the vacant posts of physicians as well as support staff, such as laboratory technicians, nurses, among others. He further asked them to make their best efforts to attract the best talent in the industry.
MP from Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency Pallab Lochan Das and Commissioner & Secretary of the Health & Family Welfare Department Siddharth Singh were also present during the interaction.
Earlier, the Chief Minister Dr. Sarma visited Chirang district Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Prakash Medhi and former Minister and MLA Binod Gowala, both of whom are undergoing treatment at the GMCH. Sarma wished them speedy recovery and assured them of all support from the State Government in their path to recovery.
It is worth mentioning that Prakash Medhi, posted as Additional SP (Headquarter) of the Chirang district, sustained bullet injury during a gunfight with miscreants last Tuesday. In the gunfight, the police were able to neutralize two miscreants involved in the crime in and around the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalgiri.
