GUWAHATI: Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua retired from the Indian Administrative Service on reaching the superannuation age on Wednesday. The new Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Paban Kumar Borthakur took charge today.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today paid a visit to outgoing Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua at the latter's office in the Assam Secretariat. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Paban Kumar Borthakur and Principal Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, lauded the outgoing Chief Secretary for the dedicated service he extended to the State and its residents for more than three decades. The Chief Minister also wished Barua a happy and healthy post-retirement life, while expressing confidence the latter will always be available for advises and guidance, whenever the government reached up to him.

Jishnu Barua, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, prior to his appointment as the State's Chief Secretary, had worked in various capacities under both the government of Assam and the Central governments.
