With an aim to facilitate the timely selling of agriculture products by promoting the buyer-seller network, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched Kisan Rath (Fruits & vegetables) Mobile App. The event was held at Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The App is developed, designed, and technically maintained by National Informatics Centre (NIC). The Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation (APART) project will be implementing the app on the ground and will aim to provide training to farmers and other stakeholders on using the App. The App can be run in Assamese, Hindi, and English.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that the app is going to give a boost to agri-business by opening up markets across the nation for farmers of Assam and will help them to get maximum benefits for their produce. He further hoped that the App would help farmers to emerge strongly in today's competitive market and will prove as a blessing to growers of perishable fruits and vegetables as it would lead to a radical reduction in wastage of their produce.

Sonowal also emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to work towards making farmers' income twice and give them a life of dignity. He also mentioned various schemes which were initiated by the central government like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Fasal Bima Yojana, KCC etc. to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in the country and made agriculture a dignified calling.

Sonowal further mentioned the state government's focus on implementing schemes like Chief Minister's Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana and Krishi Sa-Sajuli Yojana etc. in a bid to make agriculture more productive and remunerative. He also urged the youth to take up farming to build a robust economy of the state and ensure PM's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Speaking on the event, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing Atul Bora said that during the first 70 days of nationwide lockdown, farmers of Assam sold vegetables within the State and outside worth Rs.357 crore, and over 5000 farmers directly engaged themselves as vendors which helped a lot of new farmers emerge in the State.
