CM's signature forgery case: Imran Shah gets four days police custody

Imran Shah Chaudhary, the kingpin of the Chief Minister’s signature forgery case, was brought to Guwahati from Delhi on Monday evening.

GUWAHATI: Imran Shah Chaudhary, the kingpin of the Chief Minister's signature forgery case, was brought to Guwahati from Delhi on Monday evening. He was arrested in New Delhi on September 12 by a team of the of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) with the cooperation of Delhi Police. He was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and remanded to four days police custody.

The signature of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was scanned to create forged documents to get two work orders from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. Four persons connected to Lohit Construction, a firm based in Sivasagar, were detained and thoroughly interrogated. These four persons were Binit Poddar, Dipjyoti Dutta, Jaimini Mohan and Pankaj Gogoi. They revealed that Imran Shah Chaudhary had assued to get them a contract in the PHE Department through the CMO directly and had demanded Rs 9 lakh as commission.

Imran Shah Chaudhary created the forged document with the help of three other persons – Dilip Das alias Rubu from Khanapara, Anupam Chaudhary from Hengerabari and Prakash Basumatary from Kajolgaon. They scanned an actual signature of the Chief Minister to create the forged document in the shop of one Naba Roy.

According to police sources, Imran Shah had told Binit Poddar, Dipjyoti Dutta, Jaimini Mohan and Pankaj Gogoi (of Lohit Construction) that he would make them talk over phone to the Chief Minister's Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Dilip Das alias Rubu had then impersonated as the CM OSD and talked to these four persons over phone.
