CMSVC arrested four Gaon Burahs over illegal appointment

GUWAHATI: After two days of interrogation, the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell (CMSVC) on Monday arrested four Gaon Burahs in connection with illegal appointment of village headmen case.

The arrested Gaon Burah are Abdul Shohid (48) of Pathuria, Aminul Islam (48) of Kuchnimara, Sarhab Ali (47) of Pubergaon Pt-1 and Muftiullah Azad (39) of Kuchnimara, all of which places fall under South Salmara-Mankachar district.

They were produced in court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

It may be mentioned that 11 Gaon Burahs of South Salmara were grilled by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell (CMSVC) here on Thursday.

The CMSVC had filed a case (No 05/2021) on the basis of a complaint lodged with the Chief Minister by the Sadow Assam Gaon Burah Santha, West Zone, regarding illegality in appointment of Gaon Burahs in South-Salmara Mankachar district during 2017-18. It was alleged that many aspirants paid bribes ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh to get appointed as Gaon Burahs.
