GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Executive Engineers of the PWD (Public Works Department)-Roads to review the progress of different schemes being implemented across the State. He also directed the officers to ensure time-bound completion of all the ongoing projects to avoid cost escalation.
Taking stock of the progress of the scheme related works of all the PWD divisions of the State, Chief Minister Sarma said that roads reflect the quality of development of any State and people gauge the level of development by the quality of roads. He also asked the engineers to accord top priority for completion of the roads to avoid cost over-run.
Reviewing the PMGSY roads, Sarma asked the engineers to complete road construction on a war footing to ensure that the fruits of development reach the grassroots-level people at a fast pace. He also took stock of the progress of the works under CRIF (Central Roads and Infrastructure Funds), SOPD, RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Funds).
During the meeting, some project specific issues were flagged by the engineers as the Chief Minister helped them to resolve the issues to ensure expeditious competition of the scheme- related works.
The Chief Minister also took stock of the works of the proposed elevated corridor at the NH- 37 stretch of KNP (Kaziranga National Park). He also reviewed the progress of the construction works of the flyovers being constructed at Dispur, Maliagon, SarabBhatti in the city. While discussing on the proposed flyovers to be constructed from Chandmari to Noonmati and Rajgar to Bhangagarh, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma asked PWD Commissioner Rajesh Kemprai to study the feasibility and prepare a report for the projects to take their logical conclusion.
With regard to signature project, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma emphasized on the need of early and qualitative completing all the roads under the project. He also asked Commissioner PWD (Roads)Kemprai to constitute a three member committee to assess the quality of constructions of the roads and rank them as per the superiority.
He asked the PWD to work in synergy with Railways and resolve all issues coming in the way of construction activities of roads and flyovers.
Commissioner and Special Secretary PWD (Roads) Rajesh Kemprai, Chief Engineer and Additional Chief Engineers, superintendent engineers and executive engineers of PWD were present at the meeting, stated a press release.
