Guwahati: Guwahati city -- currently being ravaged by the COVID-19 virus -- has had one more area sealed off as a Containment Zone on Wednesday after the detection of more cases. These fresh COVID-19 detections have been made in the Pragjyotish Complex of Ghoramara area, and the deputy commissioner of the Kamrup (Metro) district, Biswajit Pegu, has urged the circle officer of the Dispur Revenue Circle to immediately seal the marked area.

Pegu, via a notification, has urged for the sealing of the entire Block L and B of the Pragjyotish Housing Complex to arrest the spread of the contagion. As per the notification, any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified Containment Zone are barred till the area is declared "safe" as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India.

Movement of unauthorized individuals and vehicles within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect, and statutory and other directions regarding the maintenance of social distancing will be enforced in the area.

"This order is made under the regulations 'The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020', Pegu's order stated, adding, "Any violation of this order will attract action under the provisions of 'The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020', 'The Disaster Management Act, 2005', 'The Epidemic Diseases ACT, 1897', and other relevant laws of the nation."

The sealing of the complex in Ghoramara has come to light two days after three more areas in the city were sealed. On June 6, particular areas in the State Bank of India's local head office opposite the Assam Secretariat have been declared as containment zones. As per an order promulgated by Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, Floor 1 (Wing-A), floor 5 (Wing-A), and floor 8 (Wing-A) have been declared as containment zones and sealed accordingly by the circle officer.
