GUWAHATI: Continuing with the fight against transportation of contraband and smuggled goods in trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has recovered contraband goods worth more than Rs. 9.14 lakhs during the period from January 15 to January 18. RPF also apprehended six persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband goods during this period.
In an incident on January 18, RPF of Agartala jointly with GRP/Agartala conducted checking at Agartala Railway Station. During checking, they apprehended four persons and recovered 39 kgs of Ganja worth about Rs. 3.90 lakhs. Later, the recovered Ganja and the apprehended persons were handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further action.
In other incident on January 17, RPF of Kamakhya conducted checking in train No. 15658DN (Brahmaputra Mail) at Kamakhya railway station. During checking, they recovered 6 unclaimed bags containing 124 liquor bottles, valued about Rs. 26 thousand from the train. Later, the recovered liquor bottles were handed over to OC/GRP/ Kamakhya for necessary legal action.
Moreover, in different drives and checks conducted during the period, RPF of N F Railway also recovered 36.7kgs of Ganja worth Rs. 3.67 lakhs, 625 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs. 1.22 lakhs and 28 bottles of liquor worth approx. Rs. 8960.00 from different trains and stations. One person was apprehended on January 15 for carrying Ganja and other on January 16 for illegal possession of liquor bottles during drive. Later, recovered contrabands along with apprehended persons were handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
RPF of NF Railway has recovered contraband/smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 72.14 lakhs during the month of December, 2023. During this period, RPF also apprehended 40 persons for illegal carrying of contraband/smuggled goods, stated a press release.
