GUWAHATI: Asom Rajyik Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani (ARPSS) on Tuesday demanded amendments in the contractual teachers' agreement with job security for teachers till the age of 60.

"On June 26, a decision was taken in the cabinet to provide job security till the age of 60 to contractual teachers," said the body. However, that Sanmilani is skeptical whether the agreement will provide job security.

President Jibon Chandra Bora along with secretary general Ratul Chandra Goswami demanded that along with the agreement a departmental assurance letter should be provided with signature of a departmental official.

"In various schools of the State, contractual teachers are working as Head. In such schools, the school management committee's secretaries are usually the Head who is also a contractual teacher. According to the government, the management committee should sign the agreement which provides job security to contractual teachers. Thus, now the question arises is will the committee sign its own agreement?" said Bora.

The agreement also mentions giving band loan. If all the clauses mentioned are real then not even a grocery store owner will sign the agreement, let alone bank officials. The ARPSS argued that in various clauses of the agreement, the freedom of speech has been obstructed. Thus for these reasons, the agreement should be amended.

Further, the Sanmilani demanded that the teachers who are working as Corona Sewaks should be declared as COVID Warriors. Lastly, they stated that the teachers should be provided insurance benefits.
