Cop gets four years rigorous imprisonment for demanding & accepting bribe

The Court of the special judge on Tuesday sentenced an OC (officer in charge) of Government Railway Police (GRP) Police Station four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.

GUWAHATI: The Court of the special judge on Tuesday sentenced an OC (officer in charge) of Government Railway Police (GRP) Police Station four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.

According to reports, the accused Sisir Bhatta was arrested along with Constable Dinesh Upadhai by officials of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in 2015 in connection with ACB P.S Case No.6/15. However, Constable Dinesh Upadhai was acquitted of the charge as there is no material on record against him. Special Public Prosecutor Manash Haloi had conducted the trial for the State, whereas Advocate N. Baksh appeared on behalf of the accused.
