GUWAHATI: A section of students of Cotton University started a 48-hour protest in front of the campus gate on Thursday, stating certain demands. They cautioned that the students of the Cotton University will refrain from exercising their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls if their demands are not met.

The students complained that there were not enough girls’ hostels to house 4000 borders. They asked for the construction of more hostels as three hostels were not sufficient.

Currently, there are at least 149 posts approximately, which are lying vacant. The students desired that adequate professors are appointed on an immediate basis. A demand for provincilization of the departments of BCA, Mass Communication and Bio-Technology, along with the provision of a hospital and a secure campus was placed.

A student of the Cotton University commented, “We will vote only for that party who gives us a written document that they will provide funds, along with a blueprint of the works to be done.”

The students shouted slogans and raised placards stating My Nation My Vote My Issue, No Girls No Vote, No Fund No Vote, etc in view of their demands.
