GUWAHATI: As the COVID-19 situation in Kamrup Metro is improving, only three COVID Care Centres (CCCs) out of five are running.

The three CCCs are — Sarusajai, Royal Global University, and Hotel Rituraj.

According to a National Health Mission (NHM) official, the SIRD COVID Care Centre at Kahikuchi has been closed. On the other hand, the CCC of the Indian Institute of Hotel Management is not active.

"Currently, COVID patients are being treated at the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital), Kalapahar COVID Hospital, Sonapur District Hospital, Sarusajai COVID Hospital, and Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) is not taking any new patients," said the NHM official.

Talking to The Sentinel, MMCH Superintendent Dr Arnupal Sarma said, "At present, we have only 21 patients out of which 19 are in ICU and two are on general beds. In the last six days, we have not taken any new patient. We are hopeful that we will be able to discharge the admitted patients by July 4 and open the hospital for general patients from July 6."

It is to be mentioned that till June 24, the district had 1,662 active cases out of which 785 were are under home isolation and 877 were in hospitals.

The COVID situation in Kamrup Metro has significantly improved this month.

From June 1 to June 24, a total of 12,407 active cases and 93 deaths were registered in the district. On June 24, as many as 162 positive cases and four deaths were recorded. From May 1 to June 24, a total of 45,191 positive cases and 626 deaths were registered.
