GUWAHATI: In a significant development, the containment zone tag has been removed from Spanish Garden, an apartment located at RG Baruah Road in Guwahati.
The apartment was declared a containment zone when one of its residents, Manish Tibrewal, tested corona positive earlier this month. Tibrewal was released after his recovery.
In an order issued by Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), said, “as no COVID-19 positive case has been detected since declaration of Spanish Garden Apartment and its periphery as a containment zone vide this office order on April 4, 2020, hence as per guidelines received from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the containment zone is no longer effective and the restrictions that were so imposed, have been withdrawn with effect from April 30, 2020.
“However, in the interest of greater common good, the restrictions imposed in connection with lockdown will remain in force till further notification of Government of India is issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs.”
The containment area zone order of the Apartment was issued for 14 days on April 4 for 14 days, and it was extended for another 14 days later. However, the withdrawal order has been issued two days before the expiry of the extended containment zone order. The State Health and Family Welfare department had to conduct rapid corona test to all residents of the apartment, but all tested corona negative.
