CPI expressed deep condolences on demise of Pranab Mukherjee

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expressed deep condolences at the passing away of former president of India Pranab Mukherjee.

GUWAHATI: The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expressed deep condolences at the passing away of former president of India Pranab Mukherjee.

Through a release, the CPI said Pranab Mukherjee was one of India's prominent political leaders who left his imprint on all activities he undertook in different capacities. "He was fondly called as Pranab da. People of India will remember him as an able parliamentarian, a proficient minister, a friendly and accessible leader for all. As Union minister and later as President of India he served the people and the country," the release stated.

"One may agree or not with him, but Mukherjee was always forthright in articulating his views. He held in high esteem Indian Parliament respecting all members. He also upheld the Indian Constitution, the values of secularism and democracy," the CPI added. Party general secretary D Raja paid tributes to the former president when his body was brought to his residence at Rajaji Marg in New Delhi on Tuesday and laid in state for public to pay homage.
