GUWAHATI: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) organized a protest rally raising various issues near the Meghdoot Bhawan on Thursday. The members demanded a reduction in the price hike of essential items like rice, medicines, sugar, and oil and a reduction in petrol and diesel prices. They also demanded to fill up all vacancies, make the jobs of casual and contractual workers permanent, and recognize scheme employees as government employees.
The 200 party members and supporters from various parts of Kamrup (M) District protested in support of their demands. The protesters also raised issues like the installation of smart meters, drinking water problems in the city, land patta, and others. The protest was participated by CPI (M) state committee members Shatanjib Das, Tiken Das, Seema Biswas, and Bhaben Kalita, along with other party members.
The speakers blamed the central and state governments for the suffering of the people due to price hikes and their failure to create jobs. They also condemned the state’s failure to provide clean drinking water. On the other hand, they also said that the government should stop looting common people in the name of installing smart meters, issuing land pattas to landless people, cancelling the construction of toll gates, and other issues.
Though the party took out a protest rally, it was obstructed by police personnel.
