Crackdown on Drugs Racket: Over 440 People Arrested by Assam Police across the State

As many as 441 people have been arrested by the Assam Police following a crackdown on the illegal drug trade across the State.

GUWAHATI: War Against Drug Peddlers in Assam: As many as 441 people have been arrested by the Assam Police following a crackdown on the illegal drug trade across the State.

The police registered 264 cases and arrested 441 people from May 10 to 31 while 'the war against drugs' continues in different districts of the State. The massive campaign against the illegal drug trade has substantially weakened the network of the peddlers, stated the Assam Police. The seizures made so far include 6.5799 kg of heroin, 5,785.846 kg of ganja, 92,366 tablets, 11681 cough syrup bottles, 20 gm morphine, 426 gm opium, and Rs 17,11,130 cash.

It is to be noted that during the campaign, the Guwahati Police Commissionerate registered 31 cases and arrested 48 persons.

The seizures made by the Guwahati Police Commissionerate include – 25.446 kg ganja, 97.33 gm brown sugar, 102.67 gm heroin, 100 suspected psychotropic substance tablets, 30 Nitrosun 10 tablets, 19.715 suspected psychotropic substance powder, nine motorcycles, three vehicles, and Rs 3,72,660 cash.
