Crime rate drops in Guwahati city amid coronavirus scare

GUWAHATI: The coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown have led to a reduction in the crime rate in the city. Vigilance of the administration and the corona scare has caused a deterrent for the criminals.

According to reports, only two cases were registered at the Noonmati Police Station from March 1 to April 6. However, the Traffic Police Department of the station informed that, a total of 108 vehicles were seized and fines of total Rs. 12,000 were collected for the violation of lockdown norms during the above mentioned period. The department said that around 62 Non FIR cases were registered. In Satgaon PS, 47 cases were registered from February 1 to March 23. But, from March 4 to April 6, only 7 cases were registered. The Traffic Police Branch of the station seized 66 vehicles and collected fines of Rs. 82,000 during the period. 29 Non FIR cases were registered.
