GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police was able to trace and freeze Rs 37,469.57 in regard to an incident of cyber fraud in the state.
CID was working based on the complaint filed by Tapas Gupta on April 28 regarding an incident that led to a fraud of Rs 37,469.57. The account involved in the incident was registered with the SBI. Taking immediate action regarding the same, the CID was able to freeze the whole fraud amount. In a similar incident, Rs 7,78,274 was stolen from Mehboob Hasan Ahmed using cyber fraud from his account at Axis Bank on May 18. CID was able to recover the total amount from the fraudsters.
The CID, Assam, has asked the citizens to be vigilant and not share their OTP, CVV, pin, or passwords with any strangers or click on any links. Also, if any citizen is faced with any financial cybercrime, it is advised to call immediately at 1930 or register an FIR with the local police.
