GUWAHATI: The Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association has decided to increase its price by Rs. 3.50 per litre instead of the previously announced Rs. 5 after a 15-day long discussion that ended on Thursday. This hike in the price of milk came because of the increase in fodder prices in recent times. And the bulk buyers of milk had denied buying the essential commodity at the hike of Rs 5, leading to the deadlock between the sellers and buyers. This had also created a problem in terms of the retail demand for milk as well as that of dairy-based products, including milk. And the Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association threatened to sell milk directly to clients if the bulk buyers stopped buying milk from them.
The Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association and Brihattar Guwahati Go-Palak Sanstha took part in the 15-day discussion, as the latter proposed to increase the price of milk by Rs. 5. But the two came to an agreement to keep the hike at Rs 3.50 per litre, bringing the wholesale price of milk to Rs 56.50.
