GUWAHATI: The recovery of a dead lizard in the food served to a customer in an eatery in Guwahati triggered a commotion in the locality of the eatery. The incident took place in the Paltan Bazar locality of the city on Monday.

A person from Silchar who had visited the Maa Kali Hotel in Paltan Bazar for dinner, had ordered a rice thali in the hotel. But he found a dead lizard in one of the dishes served to him in the thali, triggering severe disgust among customers. This incident led to a fight between the customers and the staff of the eatery. The customer later filed a complaint regarding the incident with the Paltan Bazar Police Station highlighting the violation of the hygiene standards as well as compromising with the health of the public. The victim also pointed out that when he confronted the owners regarding the anomaly, first they denied it being any foreign substance and after a closer look, the owners and staff tried to flee from the location. This development raises several questions regarding the following of hygiene protocols in the eateries. Although the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) takes action from time to time regarding such violators, some businesses continue such violations, thus putting the health of the public at risk.
