GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia's slammed Union Minister Rameswar Teli for 'breaching' quarantine guidelines, on Friday.
Saikia said Minister Teli was guilty of committing a most irresponsible act when he visited the gas explosion site at Oil India Limited's oilfield in Baghjan a couple of days ago in the company of Cabinet Minister of Assam Chandra Mohan Patowary.
"Minister Teli had returned from New Delhi just a day or two prior to that inspection visit and had spent only that much time in quarantine after arriving in Assam, which was in utter violation of the quarantine guidelines laid down by the Government," said Saikia.
"At the time when he thoughtlessly mingled with local residents and put their health at risk, the result of his COVID-19-related test was still awaited. My question is -Will the Government and administration take necessary action against Minister Teli for violating rules laid down by the Central and State governments, or will be excused because he is a member of the ruling regime? ," the leader added.
Further, he said that the Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced with great authority before the media that strict action would be taken against those who violate quarantine guidelines. "As such, I request him to promptly initiate strict punitive action against Mr. Teli for his violation of quarantine guidelines," Saikia pointed out.
