GUWAHATI: Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) have been undertaking a ‘fast until death’ protest against the alleged mismanagement in SEBA leading to the leakage of question papers in the HSLC Examination at Chachal, Guwahati. Some of the protesters had to be shifted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital today due to deteriorating health conditions. The key demands of the protesters include a complete redevelopment of SEBA, the resignation of the Education Minister and senior officials of the Board and legal action and punishment to the police personnel involved in the Dholpur incident.

The leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia wrote to the Chief Secretary of Assam regarding the incident asking for his interference in the matter.

He said, “6 days of protests have already been completed by the members of the SFI, but the government has not sent anyone to talk to the protesters. This puts a question mark on the democracy of the country,” adding that a government representative should visit and take note of the demands immediately while issuing a notification against the police personnel involved in the Dholpur incident and take the necessary action as it was a violation of the Child Protection Acts.
