GUWAHATI: The Leader of the Opposition of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the ongoing situation in the neighbouring state of Manipur. Drawing his attention to the unrest in the region, he requested the Prime Minister intervene in the matter and take decisive action to restore peace in the region and ensure the safety of the residents of Manipur.

Mentioning that the maximum number of visits of Union Ministers to Northeast India during his tenure pointed out the government's commitment to progress, Debabrata Saikia pointed out that no concrete action has been taken to resolve the nearly 2-month-old conflict.

He also pointed out that the elected government has lost the confidence of the public as it has failed to address the necessary issues effectively. Requesting immediate intervention regarding the matter, he wrote about the lack of action from the state government and pointed out the demand from the MLAs for an all-party delegation to visit and take stock of the ground reality. The letter also mentioned that it was disheartening to see political campaigns taking precedence over constitutional duties. He also mentioned the need for elected officials to uphold their responsibilities and take the necessary steps towards restoring peace and harmony.
