Delhi Police Arrest Guwahati Resident for Duping People with Fake Online Job Ads

A Guwahati resident was arrested by the Delhi police in Kolkata for duping 25 people by posting fake online job ads, promising them of securing jobs abroad.

New Delhi: A 48-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi police from Kolkata over allegations of deceiving people by posting fake online job advertisements, assuring the victims work abroad. Read more

The accused have been identified as Samir Arvind Parekh, a resident of Guwahati in Assam. The Delhi police said that the fraudster confessed to having duped over 25 people giving them fake hopes of securing jobs abroad. 

According to the police, the accused and his associates contacted the victim online with the false pretence of helping them secure a job abroad. After having successfully manipulating them, the scammer and his associate would get them to make payments on the guise of a registration fee, medical examination and interview. 

The matter came to light after one of the victims filed a complaint. The women, who run a food delivery service from Chattarpur in collaboration with her partner, had come across an advertisement online for a chef's job online in the first week of March. After having contacted the person concerned, she was told that make USD 2000 to work as a Chef in a restaurant in the United States. She and her partner deposited a sum of 36,000 each as a registration fee, but later when she tried to contact the person his phone appeared to be switched off. 

According to Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police, the contact numbers were all found to be from false addresses and, after the bank statements of the beneficiary accounts were obtained and analysed, it appeared that the scammer cheated many other people for jobs in Canada and USA. With the help of technical details, the accused was identified and a police team was sent to the Kasba area of Kolkata where Parekh was arrested on April 7 after several raids, he added. 

The fraudster works as a labour contractor. 

Meanwhile, four ATM debit cards, a forged Aadhar card, a PAN card and a smartphone were recovered from the accused and further investigation of this matter is underway, said the police.
