Deputy manager of Axis Bank arrested for ATM fraud in Guwahati

In a shocking incident, the deputy manager of Axis Bank, Bhetapara branch, was arrested on Tuesday for ATM fraud.

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, the deputy manager of Axis Bank, Bhetapara branch, was arrested on Tuesday for ATM fraud.

A Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) team from Geetanagar PS arrested Iftisun Haque Choudhury. She earlier worked as deputy manager in HDFC Bank, Zoo Road. Police sources said that due to her privilege as a bank employee, she used the ATM cards issued to bank customers to withdraw money. Following CCTV footage, deposits into her account and technical analysis, her thefts were confirmed. The white cap she used in ATMs to evade the CCTV cameras was also recovered.

A raid was conducted in her house which led to recovery of six new ATM packs and one chequebook of Axis Bank; six chequebooks, one new welcome kit and 10 ATM cards of HDFC Bank; two mobile phones, a PAN card and the cap.

The fraud came to light after Jyoti Krishna Das lodged an FIR on June 28 where Das stated that Rs 1.75 lakh had been withdraw from her bank account through ATM transaction. A case was registered (case no. 189/22 U/S 420 of IPC added Section 409 IPC). Police investigation finally led to the arrest of Iftisun Haque Choudhury, who hails from Mangaldai.
