Dhirenpara shooting and robbery case cracked, 6 key accused arrested by Guwahati Police

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police have made a breakthrough in the sensational Dhirenpara robbery and road shooting case and solved the case. Police arrested three key accused — Ashish Mandal (50), Jomin Boro (42) and Amarjyoti Saran (42)— in the past 48 hours.

Mandal is the main conspirator and Saran is the person who shot one Liton Majumdar on the road when he tried to catch the dacoits. The incident had taken place on October 5 at Itabhata under Fatasil Ambari PS. A gang of six dacoits entered the house of jewellery businessman Gautam Pal. At that time, his wife, two girls and a child were present in the house. The dacoits were armed with pistols. They allegedly threatened Pal's wife by placing a pistol of her head and looted Rs 5 lakh cash and jewellery items. As the lane leading to Pal's house was narrow, the dacoits had parked their Renault Duster (AS01DJ9604) in the main road. While trying to flee from the area, local people tried to stop them. The dacoits left the Duster and fled away on two Scooties belonging to other people. However, while fleeing they fired at a person named Liton Mazumdar on the neck.

The police earlier arrested Omar Ali (19), Ganesh Das (36) and Prasenjit Chakraborty (32) based on the FIR was lodged at Fatasil Ambari PS. The police visited the place of occurrence, and examined the witnesses. Police also seized a vehicle, four mobile phones, one empty cartridge, live ammunition, CCTV footage, collected finger prints from the spot and sent them over to Forensic Science Lab for examination.

The witness of the incident, Liton Majumdar, who received a bullet injury while trying restrain the accused, was sent to hospital and his statement recorded. The police have also recorded statement of the brother of an accused, Karuna Das before the court.
