Diamond worth Rs 2 crore replaced; one person held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: On July 27, 2021 Pradip Dutta, resident of Kalapahar Bhaskar Nagar Tribeni Path under Fatashil Ambari Police Station lodged an FIR (First Information Report) to the effect that complainant has a jewellery shop and that a few months back the accused (Sandeep Kumar Pandey) came to his shop to purchase a diamond.

He reportedly came to inspect the diamond twice, and also assured to purchase it. However on June 4, 2021, Pradip Dutta came to know that the diamond had been replaced with a fake one by the accused who was absconding.

Accordingly Fatasil Ambari PS Case No. 491/2021 u/s 420/370 IPC had been registered and investigated into. During investigation, accused Sandeep Kr. Pandey had been apprehended and during his interrogation he confessed that he had replaced the original diamond with a fake one.

A certified gemologist tested the original diamond. It has been estimated that the original diamond is of 120.98 Carat and its estimated market value is Rs 2 crore.
