GUWAHATI: A webinar on Decentralized Waste Management and Organic Farming along with poster writing, photography competition and plantation drive were organized by DIET, Kamrup, Mirza on the occasion of World Environment Day. The speaker of the webinar, Dr Amarjyoti Kashyap laid stress on decentralized waste management and proper segregation at the household level. The use of plastic materials should be restricted and instead local made organic articles needs to be promoted which was stressed in the webinar. Only sweeping doesn't imply Swachhata rather it transfers wastes from one place to another. Rather these wastes should be scientifically processed, recycled and must be converted into resources as recycled items, vermicompost etc., which can be applied itself to agricultural purposes. It will help in maintaining the ecological balance and contribute to the reduction in pollution level. Burning of waste must be avoided at any means which was stressed by Dr Kashyap, president of the ENVIRON, an NGO in the one-day virtual programme of World Environment Day.

The programme was followed by a question-answer session by the participants. Along with a webinar, other programmes viz., poster writing, photography competition and plantation drive were also held which was participated in full capacity by all the trainees and lecturers of the DIET, Kamrup.

The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Dr Pankaja Baruah, Principal, DIET, Kamrup, who inaugurated the session along with the launch of SAP 2021-22 activities to be implemented by the DIET. She also mentioned in her inaugural speech about taking up various activities related to Swachhata and Waste Management in the DIET campus. She appealed for active community participation in and around the institute. Dr Jhumpa Dey, lecturer at, DIET was the coordinator of the programme. Bhupen Das, Daisy Gogoi, Mitali Mahanta, Kamal Kr Mahanta, Dr Shiromoni Bhuyan, Prasanta Saikia, the faculties of the Institute contributed to organizing different competitions successfully among the trainees. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Pallavi Bhattacharya, stated a release.
