Discussion on Budget at Gauhati Commerce College (GCC)

The discussion themed around how this year's budget differs from earlier budgets, with focus on the specific priorities set out in the Union Budget of 2023-24.

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Commerce College organized "A Discussion on Central Budget 2023" on March 9. The discussion was attended by Dr Homeswar Kalita, the Principal of Gauhati Commerce College and Amarendra Talukdar, the Vice Principal. Speakers of the session included Mita Nath Bora, Member of Assam Youth Commission and Convener, Pradip Nahata, CA and Convener of Professional Cell of BJP, Assam Pradesh, Bikash Agarwal, a reputed CA and a GST expert and Dr Gaur Gopal Banik, an Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce, GCC.

The Union Budget for the financial year of 2023-24 was presented in the Parliament on February 1, 2023 by Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs. It aims to further strengthen India's economic status. The vision for 'Amrit Kaal' articulated in the Budget is centered on opportunities for citizens with focus on youth, growth and job creation and a strong and stable macro-economic environment, stated a press release.

The discussion themed around how this year's budget differs from earlier budgets, with focus on the specific priorities set out in the Union Budget of 2023-24, how our youths are an inclusive part of the budget and other budget components that prioritize their future need and aspirations. Besides, the speakers gave details of the concept of new and old tax systems. Since students were the main focus of the discussion, Nath Bora also spoke about the 'Youth Power' being one of the seven Saptarishis in this first budget of Amrit Kaal.
