Discussion on women-related laws held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Centre of Gender Justice, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, recently conducted a 'Regional Consultation on Criminal Law: Improvement in the Status of Women'. Justice Mir Alfaz Ali, Director, Judicial Academy, Assam graced the inaugural session as the chief guest and Parangam Narayan Goswami, Additional Advocate General, Assam, was present as the guest of honor. Dr Rajulben Desai, member, National Commission for Women, was present in the consultative exercise. Academicians, jurists, activists and administrative functionaries from all over the North-East region participated in the programme, which was aimed at deliberating on the reforms required to make criminal laws related to women more efficacious in safeguarding their rights and interests.

Dr Kasturi Gakul and Dr Nandarani Choudhury, Coordinators of the Centre for Gender Justice, steered the program. Prof VK Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor of the University, mentored the program as its patron.
