Dispur College celebrates its 45th Foundation Day

Dispur College celebrated its 45th Foundation Day on Monday.

 GUWAHATI: Dispur College celebrated its 45th Foundation Day on Monday. A day-long programme supervised by Dr. Mamani Kalita, Associate Professor, Dept. of Philosophy, and Convenor, 45th Foundation Day Celebration Committee, started with the ceremonial hoisting of the college flag by Principal, Dr. Navajyoti Borah, followed by the ‘Swahid Tarpan.’ The open session organized was graced by Dr. Balendra Kr. Das, President, Governing Body, Dispur College, and Dr. Anil Saikia, Folklore Studies Scholar and Former Principal, Moran College, as the ‘Guest of Honour’ and the ‘Invited Speaker, respectively.

During his welcome address, the principal, Dr. Borah, citing the glorious history of the college, said that as an institution, Dispur College has been steadily climbing the ladder of progress, marking its presence not just in matters of academic excellence but also in terms of commitment towards all areas of social uplift.

The President of the Governing Body, Dr. Das, also encouraged the young learners of the college to sow the seeds of humanity in their hearts and minds and to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the pursuit of beauty in all its myriad manifestations.

The 45th Foundation Day also marked the inauguration of the college YouTube channel, the audio-visual version of the Dispur College anthem, the annual college magazine, Dispurian, and three books edited by different faculty members and employees.

The festivities were further enhanced by the distribution of awards and certificates under different categories such as ‘Best Department,’ ‘100 Percent Attendance Award,’ ‘Best Reader Award,’ ‘Best Graduate Award, ‘Best Teacher Award, etc. The winners of the intra-college essay-writing competition on the topic “My vision for India’s G20 Presidency,” organized in keeping with the 45th Foundation Day, were also awarded, and a cash prize of Rs. 2000 was given to Chandan Kalita, a 1st semester student from the Dept. of Assamese and the recipient of the ‘Best Essay’ award, stated a press release.
