Dispur College celebrates Women’s Day

The programme was started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by noted Odissi and Satriya exponent Dr Anjanamoi Saikia.

GUWAHATI: The women's cell of Dispur College, in connection with International Women's Day, organized an exhibition cum sale of home-made and hand-made products at the college's auditorium on March 10.

The programme was started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by noted Odissi and Satriya exponent Dr Anjanamoi Saikia. Principal Dr Navajyoti Bora delivered the welcome address and spoke on the relevance of International Women's Day, highlighting the local women's issues that need attention and measures to be taken to ensure quality of life for women and men in all spheres of life. Chief guest Dr Anjanamoyi Saikia spoke about the history of International Women's Day and how it has taken on a new global dimension for women in countries like India. Dr. Monalisa Bhattacharya, convenor of the women's cell at Dispur College, said several groups of students participated in the exhibition cum sale of home-made and hand-made products, which will help them, develop entrepreneurial skills. The event was anchored by Dr. Malabika Bhattacharya, Head of the Department of Assamese at the college, stated a press release.
