Dispur inks pact with Infosys for digital learning platform

GUWAHATI: The State Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infosys for incorporation of a digital learning platform named 'Infosys Springboard' for innovative pedagogic approach.

The MoU was signed at the Assam Administrative Staff College in the presence of State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Education Department advisor Nani Gopal Mahanta, departmental officials, and principals and faculty members of technical institutes and engineering colleges across Assam.The MoU was signed by MS Manivannan, Commissioner & Secretary, Higher Education, on behalf of Government of Assam and Thirumala Arohi, senior vice president and head, Infosys Education Training and Assessment, on behalf of Infosys Ltd. The MoU is part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative through which Infosys is committed to provide adequate technical support for up-skilling and re-skilling learners and educators and supporting life skills using the innovative digital learning platform 'Infosys Springboard'.

Thirumala Arohi said: "We are not just giving you platform and content, but we want to partner with the State of Assam to make it the best model example by understanding the nuances and help students get industry-ready."

Infosys Springboard, on the lines of requirements of NEP-2020, is a digital literacy initiative aimed at empowering students and associated communities from early education to employment by enabling them on digital and supporting life skills. With the platform having approximately 12,000 courses spread across a varied disciplinary spectrum, it has enough to bridge the digital gap with proactive engagements of learners.

As such, Arohi laid stress on the need to incorporate the platform as part of the curriculum to address the requirements of NEP-2020, with an incentive model for students and faculty alike to visit Infosys campus at Mysore for advanced learning and training to augment their digital and supporting life skills.

Taking part in the discussion, Nani Gopal Mahanta appreciated the visionary initiative and thanked the Chief Minister and Education Minister for their earnest support from inception to conceptualization and the positive implementation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ranoj Pegu thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his initiative and vision in conceptualization of the MoU. In concurrence with the digital infrastructural requirement of Infosys Springboard, he assured that necessary measures will be taken to augment the digital infrastructure gap in higher education institutions. He also mentioned the noble initiative of the Government, the AROHAN scheme wherein two students (one male and one female) will be selected from each district to be mentored by the respective Deputy Commissioners to help and motivate them to expand their horizons of education opportunities by visiting higher education institutes of excellence across the State. He also urged the principals and faculty members of all engineering colleges in particular and other institutions in general to organize workshops for dissemination of the potential opportunities of Infosys Springboard. With the vision to digitally empower the learners, he assured Infosys of all necessary help and cooperation in the future from the Government of Assam.

The meeting was attended by IT cells of Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Cotton University and Bodoland University, along with the students of engineering colleges.
