Don Bosco Guwahati wins Lakhsmi Mazumdar Award

GUWAHATI: At the recently concluded National Council meeting held at the National Headquarters of Bharat Scouts & Guides, New Delhi, Don Bosco Scout & Guides Unit, Assam, was for the first time in the history of this National Competition, adjudged the winners holding 1st position to the coveted Lakhsmi Mazumdar Award. The award was presented by the president of Bharat Scouts & Guides.

It is pertinent to mention that Don Bosco Scouts & Guide unit adopted Don Bosco School Amkachi in Karbi Anglong district for its community development project, under which literacy campaign are regularly conducted besides various hobby centres such as tailoring, book binding, pineapple plantation, broom cultivation and manufacturing, etc., have been initiated which have now become a means of livelihood for the villagers of the area. The Bosconians also wore the mantle of frontline warriors during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic wherein they distributed dry rations, cooked food, hand sanitizers, face masks, soap, phenyle, etc., covering 5 districts of Assam. This initiative lead to an increase in the Scout Census as villagers saw a meaningful purpose in associating with this community development programme.

The project was undertaken under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Teron SDB, Vice Provincial of Guwahati Province as the Chief Advisor; Fr. Sebastian Mathew SDB, Principal Don Bosco School, Pan Bazar, Guwahati as Chairman; Fr. Solomon SDB, Principal Don Bosco School Amkachi, Karbi Anglong. As Convenor; Mr.A R Lazar ALT(S) Div. Commissioner Scouts & Guides, Kamrup; President Scouts & President Guides along with their team of Student members of Don Bosco School Pan Bazar, Guwahati and Don Bosco School Amkachi.
