Dr. Atindra Adhikari, former principal of the GMCH, passes away

Guwahati: Dr. Atindra Kumar Adhikari, one of the leading and eminent physicians of the state government medical sector, succumbed to cancer in the wee hours of Monday, August 31 in Guwahati city of Assam. As per reports, Dr. Adhikari was combating 'the emperor of all maladies' and had recovered. However, due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, a few of his chemotherapy sessions remained incomplete.

Dr. Adhikari was the former principal of Guwahati Medical College (GMCH). He was also the President of the Alumni Association of Guwahati Medical College till his death.

Dr. Adhikari, belonging from the department of medicine, has served in many hospitals in Assam including Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. In the establishment of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. Adhikari played an instrumental role. The physician is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The news of his demise, at his residence near Sainik Bhawan in Rajgarh, has created a pall of gloom in the area.
