GUWAHATI: The e-rickshaw drivers of Greater Chandrapur took out a protest rally on Saturday to oppose the government's move to shift the dumping ground from Boragaon to Chandrapur.

The protest that has been continuing since June 26 is being staged under the banner of Dumping Ground Birodhi Mancha.

Raising slogans against the government's move, the e-rickshaw drivers took out the rally from Swahid Bedi Complex of Chandrapur Anchalik Chatra Santha to Panbari.

"We will not accept the government's decision to dump the wastes in Chandrapur. We will continue to stage protests till the government rolls back its decision. We are hopeful that the Assam government will give justice to the people of Chandrapur by withdrawing its decision," said Pragjyotishpur Senior Citizen Association president Bishnuram Boro while attending the procession.

"We earn our livelihood by driving e-rickshaws. When the GMC garbage dumping vehicles will ply on the roads of Chandrapur regularly then it will be difficult for us to drive," said an e-rickshaw driver.

Pooja Boro, a woman e-rickshaw driver said that the drivers will intensify their agitation if the decision is not withdrawn.
