GUWAHATI: With Durga Puja round the corner, puja committees have begun preparations for the festival. After the low-key celebrations in the last two years due to the Covid pandemic, this year, in the absence of any Covid restrictions, there is a lot of enthusiasm among people.

Every year, Shantipur, Latasil, Nayantara, Bishnupur and Ganeshguri puja pandals lay stress on different themes. This year, the theme of Nayantara Durga Puja will be 'Nature and birds'.

Puja committee member Pramod Barman said, "This year our budget is Rs 12 lakh and our theme will be 'Nature and birds'.

"The Nayantara Durga Puja stands out for its theme, decoration and lighting every year. People throng our pandal in large numbers. This year also we hope to leave a mark with our decoration and lighting."

The idols will be made by a local idol maker this year. Barman further said that they were making arrangements to ensure that the Puja passes off smoothly. "CCTVs will be installed and besides NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, we will try to engage as many volunteers as possible. Parking facilities will also be provided," he said.
