Dwijing Festival From December 27 In Chirang District

GUWAHATI: The fourth Dwijing Festival is going to start from December 27, 2019 and continue till January 7, 2020 in the bank of Aie river in Chirang district, near Bongaigaon. The festival that pulled over 16 lakh national and international visitors last year is expecting over 20 lakh visitors this time around.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, State Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma said, “It gives me immense pleasure to proudly announce the 4th edition of the Dwijing Festival. This festival was envisaged with an aim to promote local tourism and the exotic culture of the BTAD. We want to make the festival a colourful, vibrant and fun-filled one so as to establish Dwijing as an annual calendar event at the global level.”

The festival was started in 2016-17 under the name of “AlE RIVER WINTER FESTIVAL”. Later in 2017-18, the name was changed to “Dwijing” meaning “RIVER BANK” transforming the event into an annual river festival. The niche attraction of the festival is the Hagrama Bridge. Since its inception in 2016, Dwijing Festival was primarily aimed at showcasing indigenous talent as well as employment avenues for them.

A number of renowned Bollywood celebrities, incredible foreign performers will certainly live up to the hype of the festival. Artistes like Vishal Shekhar, Papon, Jonita Gandhi, Sugandha Mishra and a galaxy of Bollywood celebrities will he performing at the festival.

Deputy CEM of BTC Kampa Borgoyary said, “The aim of the festival is to promote the local culture. Elephant safari will be a reality in the western side of the Manas National Park during the festival. There was an impression at the international level that Manas National Park has no future. However, with the restoration of peace in the BTAD, the situation has changed. Now the park has 41 rhinos and an NGO puts the tiger population in the park at 35.”

ATDC (Assam Tourism Development Corporation) chairman Jayanta Mallah Baruah and Commissioner & Secretary of Tourism M Angamuthu were also present at the press meet.
