Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu flags off distribution of 87.60 L of textbooks and teaching aids

The Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, flagged off the programme for distribution of Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for the academic year 2023–24 sessions on Friday at Bonda, Narengi.

GUWAHATI: The Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, flagged off the programme for distribution of Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for the academic year 2023–24 sessions on Friday at Bonda, Narengi. The whole programme was under Nipun Axom, which is a part of the Nipun Bharat Mission that aims to achieve FLN goals among students. The programme is conducted to provide quality education to every student at the primary level and make them knowledgeable citizens.

The vehicle carrying textbooks was flagged off from the Central Repository at Narengi Bonda, which consists of 87.60 lakh copies of pre-primary and primary students’ textbooks and teaching aids from various districts of Assam. The books are published in Assamese, Bengali, Boro, Manipuri, Garo, Mar, and English. The Minister said that even after our students have passed from pre-primary to primary classes, many of them still have various shortcomings in some areas. Therefore, these teaching materials are provided to eliminate the difficulties faced by the students. The Minister added that as the summer holidays are approaching, arrangements have been made for the students to practise in the textbooks provided in these teaching materials.

It is worth mentioning that, as part of this year's G-20 Summit, various public participation programmes have been conducted in various schools in the state with the main objective of promoting basic literacy and numeracy. The Minister stressed that basic literacy and numeracy will be applied for the development of students in every school to make Assam one of the top five states in the country in terms of education.

The event was attended by Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Chairman Devananda Hazarika, Secretary, School Education Department SN Chowdhury, Director, Primary Education Department Suranjana Senapati, and Executive Director, Comprehensive Education Sanjay Dao.
