GUWAHATI: The SSA (Sarba Siksha Abhiyan), Assam will conduct special TET for the teachers who are working under various categories of the SSA, said the Educational Volunteers' Association Assam (EVAA).
Association president Shaikh Abdullah said, "It was a long-standing demand of the EVAA to conduct special TET for the Education Volunteers (EVs) of the Non-residential Special Training Centres (NRSTCs) and Jyoti Centres. In 2013, we had demanded the then Education Minister to conduct a special TET to regularize the EVs. In this regard, in the year 2019, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma forwarded several suggestions to the EVAA."
Abdullah said Sarma suggested the EVs to complete a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) under National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms.
"A total of 3,434 EVs were present in the State out of which 3,339 completed the NCTE norms. On July 19, 2019 Commissioner Secretary of Education Department, Pritam Saikia wrote an order letter to the member secretary of TET Empowered Committee and State SSA Director to conduct a special TET for the EVs. On February 3, 2020 SSA Director ordered the District Mission Coordinator to issue a 'unique id' to qualified EVs and other teachers. The special TET exam was scheduled to be conducted in April, 2020. However, due to the COVID pandemic the exam was not conducted," Abdullah asserted.
He underlined that in September 18, the EVAA submitted a memorandum to the Education Ministers and other officials to conduct the exam.
"On September 28, EVAA members met SSA, Assam project officer Surajit Kalita. He informed us that already 34,000 unique ids have been provided to qualified teachers including EVs. Kalita said the exam will be conducted after process of providing unique ids is completed. As the Unlock Phase is underway, we demand a special TET at the earliest," Abdullah added.
