GUWAHATI: The N.F. Railway is progressing at full throttle towards achieving 100 per cent electrification in the entire zone. In an endeavour for complete electrification, inspection of Railway Electrification works followed by speed trials in both directions at full sectional speed in Dalgaon-SSamuktala (65 RKM/82.20 TKM) section and Alipurduar-New Coochbehar (23.37 RKM/28 TKM) section of Alipurduar Division was successfully completed on August 9. So far, 591.76 RKM/905.17 TKM routes across NFR have been successfully electrified during the period from January to July, 2023.

The entire route from Siliguri – Dalgaon - Samuktala, passing through the Dooars section, has been successfully electrified. Diesel engine fumes were affecting wildlife habitat in this section. Now, trains in the Dooars section will operate fully on electric traction, thus reducing pollution in this section, which is surrounded by wildlife and greenery. The passenger trains, including the Vistadome Express, will pass through this section at full speed without losing their punctuality.

Work on electrification projects on the N. F. Railway is in full swing. Electrification will significantly improve the mobility of trains in the NFR. In addition to the reduction in pollution due to the shift from fossil fuels to electricity, the efficiency of the Railway system in the region will also improve. This would facilitate seamless traffic and save time for the trains moving to and from the northeast to other states, stated a press release.
