Eleven fake Army personnel arrested by Azara police

Eleven persons dressed in Army uniform but not in possession of any valid identification have been arrested by Azara police near Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

GUWAHATI: Eleven persons dressed in Army uniform but not in possession of any valid identification have been arrested by Azara police near Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Monday night when moving around suspiciously.

The persons were carrying fake identification cards of Civil Soldiers of Indian Air Force. Five bikes and one Swift car have been seized from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Dhriman Krishna Goswami (20) from Baihata Chariali, Kousik Bhuyan (26) from Barpeta, Gyanendra Das (38) from Nalbari, Ganesh Das (36) from Barpeta, Nayanjyoti Gautam (27) from Nalbari, Joymoni Sarma (34) from Nalbari, Bijoy Moni Sarma (34) from Nalbari, Dwijen Sarma (34) from Nalbari, Rupam Sarma (29) from Barpeta, Sourav Sarma (22) from Baihata Chariali, Ripunjoy Goswami (28) from Baihata Chariali.

In this regard, the Azara Police has registered a case (691/2020) U/S 120 (B)/121 (A)/419/120/140/468/471/260/262 IPC.

According to relatives of the accused, Dhriman Krishna Goswami introduced himself as a high-level officer and had given them fake appointment letters.

Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police Debaraj Upadhaya said that the accused might have been conspiring to commit some crime.

It is to be noted that they were roaming near the airport for many days. Thus, now it a question on the police administration as to how men impersonating army personnel were able to roam around such a sensitive zone for that many days.
